Over in Mineola, the City Council has appointed Cindy Karch as the new City Manager, succeeding Mercy Rushing, who retired on February 28. Karch has been with the city since 2015 and brings a wealth of experience to her new role. β

Additionally, the Mineola Country Club has emerged stronger after a devastating fire in 2023. The newly rebuilt facility reopened in October 2024 and has been thriving ever since. β
π° CANTON
In Canton, early voting for the Canton Independent School District (CISD) Board election also kicks off this Tuesday, April 22, and concludes on April 29. Residents are encouraged to participate in shaping the future of local education. β
π° LONGVIEW
Longview has been recognized as a top retirement destination, thanks to its affordability, small-town charm, and access to healthcare and entertainment. The city boasts a cost of living below the national average and offers numerous recreational activities, including festivals, rodeos, and the Great Texas Balloon Race. β
Looking ahead, the City of Longview will host an Electronic Waste Recycling event on Saturday, April 26, from 8 a.m. to noon. Residents can responsibly dispose of their electronic waste during this event.

In Tyler, dozens of East Texans gathered on Saturday for a peaceful protest as part of the nationwide 50501 movement, which calls for 50 rallies in 50 states on one day. Participants voiced concerns on various political and environmental issues.
The city also hosted its annual Easter Egg-Stravaganza event at Lindsey Park, drawing an estimated 1,000 participants. The event featured colorful Easter eggs and family-friendly activities, with plans for a helicopter egg-drop in next year's celebration. β
In religious news, Bishop John Gregory Kelly was installed as the new head of the Diocese of Tyler, succeeding Bishop Joseph Strickland. The installation ceremony took place at the W.T.
